Mykonos - Door Knockers

stillwahdi.blogspot.com

Right now, I'm composing my next entry but it's taking a little longer to get done! Since I have tonnes of pictures to choose from, I got stuck all the time! Yeah.. I am left slightly blurred as to which get uploaded here...

My travel partner, En Arip has also updated his blog about Mykonos! I believe everyone has different views when looking at something... There are things that fascinate me, but maybe not others. And vice-versa!
En Arip has just written about Mykonos' door knockers! By the way, picture above is taken from his blog...

Mykonos - Seafood Paradise!

stillwahdi.blogspot.com

Fishermen's cove by the old port of Mykonos...

What I miss most about Mykonos now is their seafood! The fish market is situated just behind Little Venice and opens every morning of the week. Restaurants get their seafood supply from this market... Of course, being a fishing town, they use only fresh seafood in their cuisine.

I love the pattern and colours on this fish...

You can't get them any fresher than this!

Mykonos seafood restaurant

Almost all restaurants in Mykonos serve seafood. No matter how strategic their location is, it doesn't affect their prices. So, the price you see is pretty much uniform across the land. My favourite joint for lunch is the one located in between Little Venice and the windmills. In fact, it's the first one you see as you walk from the windmills to Little Venice. I just love the view as I enjoy my lunch here! But for dinner, I prefer those garden-concept seafood places, with great warm lighting and music...

There is an air of unhurried life, as you slowly enjoy the food and the scenery...

Greek's fresh seafood salad

One day, we were introduced to the fresh seafood salad. We had chosen lobster as its base! Besides lobster, they have fresh squid & fish salad as well. What I had in my mind was, a fresh half cooked lobster mixed in Greek salad, topped with fetta cheese, just like their famous Greek salad...

But this pinkish paste is what they called the fresh lobster salad! Don't be fooled by its look - it was much more delicious! And you could actually taste its freshness too!

Yummy!!!

Their grilled squid was really awesome... so too was the Greek style rice

Mykonos - Little Venice

The journey from the airport to my hotel took only 10 minutes, made interesting with fabulous sceneries of daily Mykonian life... It was easy to just lose one's thoughts simply watching people living their lives, and before I knew it, we reached the hotel - unimposing yet charmingly perched on a cliff...

I find the hotel somewhat lovely, and quiet... I liked the fact that it was only a five-minute walk from the town and my room balcony was facing the blue Aegean sea, with a commanding view of the Mykonos windmills! The hotel building looks simple from outside but has a really modern and fascinatingly calm interior, more so with its white- color theme... The almost-barren Mykonian ground was made more pleasing with a smartly-tucked lookout pool which faces the expansive sea..

Hotel's entrance... It looks like an ordinary Mykonian neighbourhood bungalow...

Have to blur out those Greek erotic images on the pillows! LOL!

I like the healthy breakfasts the hotel serves...

Little Venice

stillwahdi.blogspot.com

Little Venice is one of the most famous Mykonos landmarks, located in heart of the town. And since it was only just five minutes from my hotel, I spent some time there almost everyday - to have my coffee and meals, while watching the sunset and fishing, too! The view from Little Venice was really awesome! It also faces the other famous landmark, the windmills! *will share some Mykonos windmill pictures in another entry...

Lazy days on the Aegean islands - Mykonos Greece!

Mykonos; The pelican's island!

I have always admired Mykonos island, since the day I saw some of its most colorful pictures a few years back... Since then, I had put Mykonos on my list of places to do...

The island fares better than what those picture told... Infact, it's extremely gorgeous! Really, really, gorgeous! The same goes for its people, too!

Anyway, the view from the aircraft was so amazing! I could only see little white buildings perching on the cliffs... as if watching over the great, beautiful Aegean sea...

“Hi!!! Welcome to Mykonos!!! You are finally here!!!” Helena exclaimed, as she greets us at the airport. A couple of months ago, we had communicated quite frequently on the internet to make the arrangements. Helena runs her family's private hotel, and had offered to pick us up at the airport. Two other sweet American girls joined us in the shuttle to the hotel, too... The four of us were made extremely excited by the sceneries that dotted the 10-minute route...

"Beautiful, huh?" added Helena in her thick local accent... I totally agreed with her, busy snapping pictures almost every second of the breathtaking ride!

Driving in Mykonos was quite challenging as most roads were narrow and winding, criss-crossing over hills...

I was left speechless by the beauty of the island... Every single corner was so picturesque. My travel partner En Arip could only agree with me...

Lucky thing we had slightly over a week to take in the Mykonos scene, including its cycladic sister-islands of Delos & Santorini... We arrived without any pre-set, big plans. In fact, the only priority we had was to just rest and relax.

Here is Petros, Mykonos' pelican patron. It was huge, yet very tame! All along, I had expected it to be small in size!

I'll write more about this island in future entries!
